~reno 101: a tale of 2 baths...

We are finally.wrapping.up.the.renos!  It has been 6 months since we had the "little" water leak which wreaked havoc on parts of the house and spurred us to do some other changes after repairing the water damage.

One of those changes we added to our project list was to finally develop the basement bathroom.  We also repainted & redecorated the main bath upstairs.  Here are the results...

Introducing the new downstairs bathroom (there are no "before" photos, because the space was nothing but a "hole in the wall" used to store a bunch of boxes & other stuff)...

The 3-piece bath is painted light grey, with a blue accent stripe & white wainscotting.  

The hubs wanted to use a ladder for a towel rack & we found  this one at a local antique retailer.  It is not an antique, but it is the right scale & it works!  I had to sand, stain & put on a clear top coat to protect the wood (& the towels that will hang on it).

Another shot ~ there are still some finishing touches that need to be done, but the room was ready for the company that arrived & has been using it for the last 2 weeks - yeah!!

This is a picture of the vanity & mirror.  We wanted something that was different to use as a mirror, and found this old dresser mirror frame & support at the antique store too.  I repainted the mirror frame, and then antiqued it with ebony stain, but I left the "harp-shaped" support in the condition I bought it in.  We did have to run that part of the unit through the table saw, to shorten it, so it would fit in the available space.  

Another shot of the vanity corner.  Our local Home Hardware store has the most amazing home decor section, which is where I found the hooks for the hand towel & face cloth.  The vanity/sink unit is from Home Depot.

A barn-wood bench that used to be in our front entry.  It had gotten somewhat "rickety," so I stabilized it, added a new padded top covered in a nice blue & white striped ticking & voila ~ we have a nice little bench in the bathroom!

Introducing the newly renovated upstairs bathroom (I was horrible at remembering to take "before" photos, soI have no photos of the main bathroom in its previous state)...

The main bath got: new paint (2 tones of grey); new flooring (the same new lino that is in all 3 bathrooms & the front entry); a new toilet (a dual/low-flush wonder that is built at "right" height - i.e. height is same as a dining chair); a new shower curtain (that perfectly matches the red accent wall in the hall right outside the bath); a new mirror, cabinet knobs & light fixture; a redo of the sea-shell display (shells were previously displayed in open baskets on shelves and were always dusty & gross - they are now in a luverly shadow box that BooBoo kindly painted for me, to match all the other red accents); and a cool new wreath made by Sweet Pea.
