The furniture is mostly the same with the exception of the new red recliner, and area rug. The pedestal coffee table was another piece passed to me from my sweet momma many years ago (again, a piece that my parents bought used - my pops figures he bought it in the early 1950s at an auction in Del Bonita). In a move about 20 years ago, the pedestal base got cracked, so it was very wobbly, which meant it has been sitting next to the wall all these years to give it stability. I took it to the furniture repair store, and they fixed the crack in the pedestal & applied the dark stain. I love it in its redone state!!
The wall colors are from Cloverdale Paints. The light beige is called Ferncliffe & the darker color on the pony wall is is called Tumble Tan. The red on the pony wall's wood cap is Leaf Rust which has been antiqued to match the panty door & china cupboard in the kitchen. We finally even have the artwork hung up on the walls again. Yeah, for progress!
The family room got a makeover too, because its ceiling had to be repaired from the water leak damage. I never took any before photos of either room - my bad, I know! All the furniture is what we had, just rearranged...
Here is a close-up of what I affectionately refer to as the "art" wall. All of these pieces were painted by my mother, grand-mother, and great-grandmother. Many members of my extended family have very creative talents! The exeption is the watercolor painting that is hung in the middle of the bottom row (sunset on lake with a small boat in the water). This painting was given to my mother in 1949 by a woman named Mrs Hewlett. She had been on a Greyhound bus from the US to Lethbridge, and sat beside mom so they had been visiting along the way. The bus broke down & people had to arrange their own rides from Coutts. Mom's older brother drove down to pick her up & mom offered Mrs Hewlett a ride with them. A few months later, mom received this painting in the mail as a thank-you gift & she boxed it up with other precious things, only to be rediscovered when my sister was helping her sort through her things just prior to her passing. I had it framed recently, so it now hangs with my other precious family heirlooms!
Besides the ceiling fix, the other project for this room was to add a free-standing gas stove for warmth - the basement is very cool, especially in the winter & so the new stove makes it nice & cozy when we are hanging out. Here is a close-up shot & a distance one...
In order to put the stove in, we had to reposition the furniture, so the stove could be vented on an outside wall. Essentially, the placement of the sectional & TV were flipped, which meant the shelving units ended up in the corners of the room behind the sectional, which is too bad because they are nice reproductions (IMHO, that is!). Here they are once I had the boxes all unpacked & before the couch was positioned in front...
And last but not least, is this one little corner that seemed somewhat bare, so it got a fake tree that was shuffled out of its previous spot & needed a home, and a neat old oak office chair that I bought off a friend who was downsizing many, many years ago & which I have simply not been able to part with - so now the bookworm in me, has a reading nook!
