~summer's solitude...

summer's solitude

~ by marie ~

a myriad of hues of blue overhead
mingled with hints of pink, peach and lavender.
with promise to expose an orange orb
once it breaches an eastern horizon.
the lazy sun is slower to rise than in weeks gone by;
expectant rain clouds billow in the west
as running shoes hit softly on grass and trail.
breathless breezes sweep over the landscape
of a mirror-like lake as it reflects tinges of vibrant color,
from the heavenly palette of a glorious maker.
reeds stand resolute to protect sleeping ducks,
who have yet to leave ripples trailing on the lake's smooth surface.
no cawing crows or magpies mar the morn's solitude yet,
but summer bugs silently jump and splash
leaving concentric surface rings spreading;
showing existence of what the early dawn light hides.
occasional encounters with dog walkers, runners, cyclists
and possibly homeless youths,
bring exchanges of "good morning" greetings
and feelings of friendly cheer spur me forward
whilst the dawn's dimness recedes.
as i absorb the radiance of a cresting sun
and the new day's light streams out from behind colorful bands of clouds,
i ponder as i run in the crisp, cool air...
is it still summer,
or has autumn begun?

Aug 24 ~ a spectacular sunrise (taken on my phone - hence the poorer quality!!)

Aug 24 ~ very nasty looking morning storm clouds brewing to the west
